Enroll in the Commuter Program and watch your savings grow.

This program saves you money by allowing you to pay for your commuting expenses through pre-tax payroll deductions.

Because the money is deducted before taxes are taken out, you get between 16% and 40% more to spend on your commuting expenses than you would without the program. Full-time commuters typically save between $500 and $1000 a year.

To enroll, enter the amount you spend on commuting each month for transit, vanpool, or parking and select your commuter plan and product. Popular options include the commuter debit card, home pass delivery or smart card reload, and direct payment to a specific parking provider. Once your order is entered, you can set it to automatically refill each month, or choose to do it yourself manually.

The money to fund the program is deducted in two equal portions from your paychecks pre-tax each month, and deposited into your account or placed on your commuter card on your pay date.

More About the USPS Plan

Sign Up for Transit or Vanpool Benefits

  1. Register for an account user ID and password.
    To register, just visit www.wageworks.com and click "Register with WageWorks now!" You'll need to verify your employee status by answering a few simple questions and create a user name and password.
  2. Review the USPS Commuter Program Brochure
  3. Enroll in the Program
    • Select from the Transit Plans shown below.
    • Enter your monthly transit or vanpool costs, which is the amount that will be contributed to your account each month from your tax-free payroll deductions.

Your Transit Plan Options

  • TRANSIT CARD PLAN – Order the WageWorks Commuter Card, (a commuter debit card) and give yourself the flexibility to buy transit agency passes or fare media as you need them, when you need them. This card is loaded with your payroll deductions on your pay date so you have immediate access to your money to pay for your commute.
  • TRANSIT PASS PLAN – Receive your passes delivered directly to your door, each month automatically, or as you choose. Or have your transit agency smart card reloaded. If you select the TRANSIT PASS PLAN, when you enroll, you will also need to choose the transit product for home delivery.

Deadlines

You need to be aware of the two deadlines for this program.

  1. Monthly Election Deadline – The cutoff for placing, changing or cancelling your monthly payroll deductions is the 15th ahead of the commuting month. For example, the deadline is July 15th for August contributions to your card or account. Funds will be added to your card or account on each pay day.
  2. Order Deadline – If you enroll in the TRANSIT PASS PLAN, the cutoff for placing, changing, or cancelling a commuter order is always the 10th of the month prior to the commuting month. For example, July 10th is the deadline for August orders. If you live in the greater New York metropolitan area and ride the Long Island Rail Road or Metro-North Railroad, the cutoff for these two transit operators is the 4th rather than the 10th.
